What is the most realistic curling simulator on mobile?
Curling Ice is widely considered the most realistic 2D curling simulator available on mobile. The physics engine
models real ice friction, curl trajectory based on stone rotation, collision momentum, and sweep effects.
Every throw behaves like it would on real ice, not a scripted animation.
Is Curling Ice free to play?
Yes. Completely free, no in-app purchases, no paywalls. Every game mode — practice, tutorial, scenarios,
and online multiplayer is available at no cost. With minimal ad intrusions to support development.
Can I play curling online against other people?
Yes. Curling Ice features live online multiplayer. Create a free account, then invite a friend or join an online match.
Turns sync in real time between devices, same physics, same ice, different phones, sitting next to you or even on the other side of the globe.
How do I install the curling simulator on my phone?
Android: Install from the Google Play Store, or visit curlingice.ca in Chrome and tap "Install"
iPhone / iPad: Open the site in Safari, tap the share icon, and select "Add to Home Screen." An App Store version is planned.
Desktop: Net yet available for desktop.
Does the curling physics simulation feel realistic?
The physics engine models real-world curling constants: ice friction coefficients, stone rotation and curl trajectory,
pebble effects, collision momentum transfer, and sweep impact on distance and curl. Experienced curlers consistently
describe the shot behavior as authentic.
Can I use Curling Ice as a curling training app?
Absolutely. The scenario system lets you save and reload any stone configuration to practice specific shots and end situations.
Team Practice mode lets your team coordinate on a shared sheet remotely. The physics are accurate enough that strategy concepts rock placement, angle raises, weight control, transfer directly to real ice.
Is there a tutorial for people new to curling?
Yes. An interactive tutorial teaches both the sport and the app from scratch.
All taught through real guided practice throws.
What curling strategy features does the simulator include?
Curling Ice is a full curling strategy simulator. Set up any stone configuration as a scenario, practice specific end situations,
study guard placement, work on peel weight vs. hit-and-roll, and experiment with the free guard zone. Team Practice mode lets
multiple players coordinate shot selection on a shared sheet in real time.
What languages does the curling game support?
17 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Georgian, Armenian, Italian, Japanese,
Korean, Polish, Swedish, Estonian, Norwegian, Czech, Russian, and Turkish. More are being added.
Does the curling simulator work offline?
Yes. Once installed as a PWA or from the Play Store, practice mode, scenarios, the tutorial, and local games
are fully available offline. Only online multiplayer and cloud features require an internet connection.
Is there an iOS app?
Not yet on the App Store, but the PWA works beautifully on iPhone and iPad via Safari.
Add it to your home screen from the Safari share menu for the full app experience. An App Store version is planned.
Is the sheet to scale?
Yes. The sheet, rings, hog lines, tee line, back line, and hack positions all use official WCF measurements. The button is at regulation distance, and the four-foot, eight-foot, and twelve-foot rings are accurate. If you've thrown real rocks, the geometry will feel immediately familiar.
There are two rock sizes. Which should I use?
The standard size is true to scale with the sheet. The 2× size uses physically larger stones. They behave identically in the physics simulation but are easier to aim and tap on a small phone screen. If you're playing on a phone under roughly 6 inches, the large rocks are recommended. On a tablet or desktop, standard scale looks and feels better.
What does sweeping actually do in the simulation?
Two things: it reduces friction (so the stone travels further) and suppresses curl (so the path straightens). At maximum effort, sweeping can reduce friction by up to 50% and cut the curl rate by up to 65%. Both values are adjustable in the ice physics settings if you want sweeping to matter more or less in your game.
Why does my stone curl the wrong way?
It's going the right way. It depends on which turn you threw. In-turn rotates clockwise (for a right-handed delivery) and curls to the right as the stone slows. Out-turn rotates counter-clockwise and curls left. If the direction surprised you, check which handle is selected before you release.
What is the free guard zone rule?
The first four stones of each end cannot be removed from play if they land between the hog line and the rings (but not in the house). Attempting to peel a guard in that zone is a rules violation — the stone is replaced and the shooter is removed. Curling Ice enforces this rule in match mode.
Why does my stone always go too fast or come up short?
Every device registers swipe gestures slightly differently. The Swipe Assist toggle in Settings normalizes your gesture into consistent weight zones, which helps considerably. You can also check the mult: readout in the Settings header — this is your device's calibration multiplier. Swipe Assist is the easiest fix for most players.
What is the weight hint?
When enabled in Settings, a card appears during delivery showing your estimated shot weight — Far Guard, Draw, Hit Weight, Peel, and so on. Based on your split time (the time from the back line to the hog line) and velocity. It's useful for calibrating your weight feel and learning how delivery speed maps to real curling weight names.
Can I adjust how fast or slow the ice plays?
Yes. The ice physics panel in Settings has seven adjustable parameters covering baseline friction, low-speed curl intensity, high-speed drag, and sweep effectiveness. There are named presets ranging from Championship ice to outdoor pond conditions. See the
Ice Physics guide for the full breakdown and preset values.
Can I undo a shot in practice?
Yes. Open Settings during a practice session and tap Undo to roll the sheet back to its previous state. Undo requires a signed-in account since the snapshot is stored server-side. If you're playing as a guest, the Reset End button clears the sheet entirely.
What happens to my scenarios if I uninstall the app?
If you're signed in, scenarios are saved to the server and will be there when you reinstall.
What is Team Practice mode?
Team Practice is a shared-sheet multiplayer session without scoring or competition. Everyone in the session sees the same stones in real time. It's designed for remote team coordination. Discussing shot selection, running drills, or working through specific end situations together from different locations.
Can I watch a game without playing?
Yes. Players who join a session but aren't the active thrower enter observer mode. They see the sheet and watch the stone travel in real time but don't control anything. Useful for coaches, teammates sitting in on a practice session, or anyone who joins a match that has already started.
I've never watched curling before. Is this game for me?
Yes. The interactive tutorial teaches the sport from scratch. The sheet, throwing mechanics, sweeping, scoring, and basic strategy. By the end you'll understand enough to follow a real match. No prior knowledge needed. For a quick written primer on the vocabulary and rules before you start, see the
Curling 101 guide.
What does “hammer” mean?
The hammer is the last stone of an end. The team throwing it has a major strategic advantage since they get the final say on positioning. The team that lost the previous end receives the hammer in the next one. Almost all curling strategy is shaped by whether you have hammer or not.
Is there a tutorial?
Yes. The built-in tutorial walks you through every shot type with coaching cues at each step, draw weight, guards, takeouts, raises, and in-turn vs. out-turn. The curling coach guides you through each drill and gives real-time feedback. Progress is tied to your account so you can resume across sessions. Whether you've never thrown a stone in your life or you're learning the real sport alongside the game, the tutorial meets you where you are.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Practice, scenarios, and match play all work without an internet connection. In offline match mode you play against Randy or Scottie two AI opponents built into the game with distinct styles. Randy plays a measured draw game; Scottie goes for aggressive peels and high-risk plays. No Wi-Fi required once the app is installed.
Why install the app instead of just playing in the browser?
Curling Ice is a Trusted Web Activity (TWA) — a web-powered app available on the Play Store and App Store. Installing it gives you a full-screen gameplay experience with no browser address bar cutting into the sheet, faster startup, and a proper home screen icon. It also uses less device storage than a traditional native app since assets are cached from the web rather than bundled in the download. You can also install directly from your browser on any platform using the in-browser install prompt, no store required.
Who made Curling Ice?
Curling Ice was created by Moo Labs Canada, the heart of Curling, with offices in
Toronto (Canada), Sao Paulo (Brazil), and Tbilisi (Georgia). The project started as a mission to build
a better mobile curling experience that truly respects the physics and strategic depth of the sport.
